Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers by 48 runs in the BBL Qualifier at the Perth Stadium on Tuesday. Opener Finn Allen (49) guided the home side to a respectable score before young pacer Mahli Beardman stepped in with an impressive three-wicket haul to power the Scorchers into the final.

‌Perth Scorchers became the first side to reach the final of the Big Bash League 2025-26 campaign with a comprehensive 48-run win over Sydney Sixers in the qualifier on Tuesday. Opener Finn Allen top-scored for the side with a 30-ball 49 to guide the home side to 147/9 at Perth Stadium before pacer Mahli Beardman made his mark with three crucial wickets during the run chase. However, the Sixers have another chance to make it to the summit clash as they await the winner of Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars in the knockout.

After being put into bat, the Scorchers' openers Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen were kept on a tight leash by the new ball duo of Sean Abbott and Mitchell Starc. The left-arm seamer dismissed Marsh cheaply, while Allen took his time before breaking away with an audacious scoop off the veteran pacer. From then on, there was no stopping the Kiwi batter as he smashed four sixes and two fours during his 58-run stand with Aaron Hardie for the second wicket. But the home side imploded after he played on Ben Dwarshuis, a run short of his fifty, in the eighth over. And in no time, the Scorchers were struggling at 101/6 with more than five overs to play. However, captain Ashton Turner held the innings together and played a crucial knock to take his side close to the 150-run mark. He made 29 off 21 balls, hitting three fours and sixes, and added 44 crucial runs with Jhye Richardson (20) for the seventh wicket to lend some respectability to the hosts’ total. Meanwhile, the left-arm pace duo of Starc and Dwarshuis ended with figures of 2/32 and 2/23 in their respective four-over spells, with medium pacer Jack Edwards also chipping in with a couple of wickets.

The Sixers’ chase was not smooth either, as the side lost three batters inside four overs, with the score reading just 23. However, Steve Smith was still there at the crease and kept the hopes of the visitors alive with a 40-run stand with Lachlan Shaw. The Aussie batter, who walked into the game on the back of a century and a fifty in his last two innings, continued from where he left off with a six off Cooper Connolly off the first ball he faced. He, then, welcomed Brody Couch into the attack with a four and an amazing pick-up hook shot, which flew past the boundary to take the side past the 50-run mark. But just as the pair settled down and the Sixers required 92 off the last 12 overs, another collapse pushed them to the edge. Both set batters, along with Jack Edwards in between, were dismissed in the next three overs as the side struggled at 74/6. After accounting for Josh Philippe and Moises Henriques in his first spell, Beardman returned to price out Smith with an accurate short ball, beating the veteran batter for pace. From then on, there were no doubts on the outcome of the game as the Sixers folded out for just 99 runs with five overs to spare without any meaningful resistance from the lower order. The young pacer was the pick among the hosts’ bowlers with a spell of 3/20 in three overs, while Cooper Connolly and David Payne also had two wickets to their name.
