YOR vs SUR Preview | Yorkshire scheduled to battle table toppers Surrey as County cricket resumes

SportsCafe Desk

Yorkshire are set to face off against table toppers Surrey in Round 10 of the County Championship at the North Marine Road ground in Scarborough on July 22. The Yorks will be oping to end their struggles and end the unbeaten run of the Brown caps in the upcoming game on Tuesday.

‌The time has come for round 10 of the County Championship Division One, where some of the best players in the United Kingdom will go up against each other. One of the games to look forward to is between Yorkshire and Surrey, who will be competing at the North Marine Road Ground. These two sides have a lot of history between them, where they have not only produced some of the best players in County cricket but have also won 56 championships combined together.

Though there have been some great battles between the Roses and the Brown Caps, they are in contrasting positions this season. The team under the leadership of Jonny Bairstow have had an abysmal season so far, standing eighth on the points table with two wins, four losses, and three draws. The situation has gotten tougher with one of their premium spinners Dom Bess’ availability under the scanner ahead of the big game.

On the other hand, Surrey, who are being led by opening batter Rory Burns this season, are having one of their best seasons and are not only leading the points table but are also enjoying an unbeaten run with three wins and six draws, including a first innings lead in four of those matches. Their last game against Durham was a spectacle where they went on to score 820 runs in the first innings, a County and club record. While Surrey will want to continue their unbeaten run, the Yorks will be hoping to break that streak in the upcoming game.

Form Guide

Yorkshire have not thrived in first-class cricket this season, which is visibly seen in their recent form. Though they won their last game against Essex convincingly, in the previous four encounters they suffered two losses and two drawn matches.

Surrey have not suffered a single loss in their last five encounters and have dominated in all the games. They have not only won two games by big margins, but have also managed to get a first-innings lead in two of the three games they have drawn.

Yorkshire vs Surrey Head-to-Head in First-Class matches

Surrey have been dominant in the last five games against Yorkshire, winning three games against the Yorks and losing just one game back in 2019. The Roses will be looking to end their six-year drought against the Brown Caps.

Yorkshire 1 -3 Surrey

Pitch and Weather

The North Marine Road in Scarborough has been a surface where batting second has been the strategy employed by teams in order to win matches. The pitch seems to get batter to bat on as the game progresses. While the team batting first has only been victorious on 15 occasions, the team batting second has won 28 games.

The weather at the venue is expected to be between 19-20 degrees Celsius, and there are high chances of rain in the afternoon.

Team News

There might be only one change that might be a forced one within the Yorkshire lineup for the upcoming match, with Dan Moriarty coming in place of Dom Bess due to injury concerns.

Surrey are expected to play with the same team that played against Durham at The Oval.

Yorkshire Probable XI: Adam Lyth, Finlay Bean, James Wharton, Abdullah Shafique, Jonny Bairstow (c/wk), Matthew Revis, George Hill, Will Sutherland, Dan Moriarty, Ben Coad, Jack White.

Surrey Probable XI: Rory Burns (c), Dom Sibley, Ryan Patel, Sam Curran, Dan Lawrence, Will Jacks, Jordan Clark, Josh Blake (wk), Tom Lawes, Matthew Fisher.

The County Championship will not be broadcast on any platform in India. However, some games will be live-streamed on YouTube.
