Match Report

South Africa completed a dominant 301-run win over Zimbabwe in the second Test at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Wiaan Mulder starred with both bat and ball, scoring a century and picking up six wickets in the game to lead a complete team performance to seal a 2-0 series win.

Batting first on a good surface, South Africa’s top and middle order thrived with stand-in skipper Wiaan Mulder compiling a composed 103 while Lhuan-dre Pretorius (71) and Dewald Brevis (50) played aggressive supporting roles. The visitors declared their innings at 421/9 with Zimbabwe’s Tanaka Chivanga impressing yet again with a spell of 4/92 while fellow pacer Blessing Muzarabani also picked up three wickets.

Zimbabwe’s response was meek as they were shot out for just 201 runs, conceding a lead of 220 to the visitors. Sean Williams played another gem, scoring 61, and Craig Ervine showed some resistance during his stay at the crease while the rest of the lineup failed against a probing attack. Codi Yusuf picked up 4/41 and Mulder had 3/38 as the pair dismantled the home side’s middle and lower order.

Looking to set a big target, South Africa batted briskly in their second outing with Bedingham’s 59 and Mulder’s 44 helping them reach 234/6 before declaring. Zimbabwe’s bowlers picked occasional wickets but couldn’t contain the run rate as Chivanga was the pick among the bowlers once again with figures of 2/56.

Chasing 455 for an unlikely win, Zimbabwe started tentatively. Sean Williams once again tried to rally his side with a counterattacking 41, but wickets tumbled regularly at the other end. Corbin Bosch’s fiery spell of 4/31 crushed any hopes of the hosts’ resistance while Mulder capped off a dream Test with three more scalps, sealing a resounding South African victory.

Player of the Match

Wiaan Mulder was declared Player of the Match for his match-defining contributions with both bat and ball.
