Watch, MLC 2025 । Smit Patel executes brilliant run-out as Boult fumbles at crease
Faf du Plessis' blistering century and Akeal Hosein’s brilliant bowling performance led Texas Super Kings to an impressive 39-run win over MI New York in the 21st game of the ongoing Major League Cricket 2025 (MLC 2025). Yet, the highlight reel was dominated by the hilarious run-out of Trent Boult.
The MINY skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and asked Texas Super Kings to bat; batting first, TSK posted a big total of 223/4 in the allotted 20 overs. The veteran opener and skipper, Faf du Plessis, smashed 103 runs off just 53 balls, with five fours and nine sixes. Besides him, the star middle-order batter Donnovan Ferreira also played a fiery knock of 53 runs off just 20 balls, with three fours and five sixes. George Linde and Rushil Ugarkar scalped 2 wickets each for MINY in the first innings.
Meanwhile, an interesting incident happened around the end of the MINY innings while they were chasing the target. It happened on the fourth ball of the 20th and last over, bowled by star TSK all-rounder Marcus Stonis. He bowled a fuller length straight on the pads, and the ball went on to hit Boult’s toes, and he tried to run for a quick single, but the ball went into the gloves of TSK wicketkeeper Smit Patel. Furthermore, Patel made no mistake in executing a stunning direct hit at Boult fumbled at the crease while heading back from the single he had initiated. Subsequently, Boult got dismissed in a run-out, taking MINY’s score from 183/7 to 183/8 after 19.4 overs.
On the next ball after Trent Boult’s dismissal, Marcus Stoinis trapped Rushil Ugarkar in an LBW dismissal on the fifth ball of the over. Eventually, MI New York were restricted to a total of 184/9 in the entire 20 overs. The veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard was the only batter to display some resilience with the bat, hitting 70 runs off just 39 balls, with five fours and as many sixes.
Besides him, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and all-rounder Michael Bracewell also scored 35 and 26 runs, but their knocks went in vain as MINY failed to chase the target and lost the game by 39 runs.
