Bangladesh were already in dire straits with a batting collapse in the final session of the previous day as they looked to extend the inevitable in the first session of day four. Starting the proceedings at 115/6, the visitors' innings lasted just 34 balls as left-arm spinner Jayasuriya cleaned up the Bangladesh lower order in quick time. The Tigers, who made 247 in the first innings, could add only 18 runs to their overnight score with Mushfiqur Rahim being their best batter in the second essay with 26 runs.
Apart from Jayasuriya, spinners Dhananjaya de Silva and Tharindu Ratnayake picked up two wickets apiece while Pathum Nissanka walked away with the Player of the Match award after his mammoth 158 powered Sri Lanka to 458 in their first innings. Incidentally, Nissanka also won the Player of the Series award after scoring centuries in both matches.
