DRS have always bailed out batters whenever umpires get their call wrong but Michael Bracewell took it to the next level during the San Francisco Unicorns vs MI New York match in MLC 2025. He signalled for a review after being bowled for a first-ball duck giving way to hilarious scenes.

‌San Francisco Unicorns continued their unbeaten run in the Major League Cricket 2025 season with a comprehensive 47-run win over MI New York at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Tuesday. After being put into bat first, MI NY got to a massive 246/4 from 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk. Short smashed five sixes and nine fours to top-score in the match with a 43-ball 91 while Fraser-McGurk scored a belligerent 64, including seven sixes and a four, in 26 balls. Entertaining cameos towards the end of the innings from Sanjay Krishnamurthi (27 off 16) and Hassan Khan (31 off 9) took SFU close to the 250-run mark.

In response, MI NY could manage only 199/6 despite an excellent opening stand of 119 between Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel within the first 10 overs. de Kock hit 70 off 46 balls with eight fours and two sixes while Monank also shone with a 33-ball 60, a knock which included 10 fours and one six. But once the openers departed, no other batter stood out apart from Kieron Pollard, who remained unbeaten with a 16-ball 34.

Though the crowd had nothing to cheer after the opening stand from the MI NY batters, they turned witness to some hilarious scenes in the middle towards the end of the chase. With 80 runs required from the last four overs, de Kock was cleaned up by Romario Shepherd with the first ball of the over. New-batter Michael Bracewell, trying to bring the required run rate down, went for a wild heave off a short-of-a-length delivery in his first ball. Shepherd beat the left-hander with his pace as it went through to hit the top of his off-stump. However, Bracewell, unaware of the proceedings, went for the review after seeing the bowler and the fielding side celebrate. But the Kiwi all-rounder soon realised his mistake and with a sheepish smile started his walk back. He tried explaining to his partner Pollard that he had taken a review thinking it was an LBW dismissal but it was too late as the crowd enjoyed a hilarious brain fade from the MI NY player.

LOL!
