The Afghanistan bowling department suffered an embarrassing thrashing at the hands of ICC World Cup 2019 hosts England on Tuesday. Star player Rashid Khan, in particular, endured a difficult outing at the hands of a rampant England team led by explosive captain Eoin Morgan who scored a thunderous 71-ball 148 against the Asian minnows.
The 20-year old spinner set a new record for the worst figures registered at a World Cup by a bowler after he was smoked for 110 runs in his nine-over spell today. The previous record was held by Martin Snedden from New Zealand who conceded 105 runs in 12 overs against England in the 1983 World Cup.
The SRH star became the first spinner and 13th bowler in Men's ODI history to concede over 100 runs in a one-day match. In addition to that, Rashid was smashed for 11 sixes which is the most by any bowler in a One-Day International. Of 110 runs that Rashid gave away, 58 were scored by Morgan who banged 17 sixes in his 71-ball 148.
The Three Lions skipper hit Rashid for seven maximums. Moeen Ali hit him for two sixes, while Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow hit one six each off Rashid's bowling.
