India vs Australia | Virat Kohli’s behavior was not aggressive or abusive, says Michael Hussey

India fell to a 146-run defeat at the hands of hosts Australia last Monday as Justin Langer’s boys levelled the ongoing four-match series 1-1 to put the pressure back on the visitors. However, the main talking point of the Test in Perth was the confrontation between opposition captains, Virat Kohli and Tim Paine. 

Former Australian cricketer, Michael Hussey, was quick to dismiss concerns surrounding Kohli’s behavior in the last match as the former claimed that the Indian captain was well within his limits while celebrating the fall of the Australian batting line-up.

“It did not go over the top. It was not aggressive or abusive. This is a tough series and you expect the odd thing to be said. It did not get out of hand.

“I thought both players handled it well. It was nipped in the bud before it could escalate. It showed both teams will play tough cricket and they are not going to back down,” Hussey said in an interview with PTI.

Hussey, who represented Australia 79 Test matches throughout the course of his career, added that the ongoing series will go right down to the wire as both teams will desperately be gunning for a win. The former batsman also lavished praise on the home team who bounced back with a stunning win in the second match of the series.

“For me, at the moment I am seeing feel-good actions on the field (from Paine’s team). Their skills are tough and they are not compromising on playing as hard as they can. They are giving a hundred per cent, but if something needs to be said, it is not abusive.

“You can be aggressive but you still need to respect your opposition and that to me is what the Australian cricket brand is. Maybe we have not always been like that and certainly deserve some criticism for having gone over the top. But in my mind, this team is playing good Australian brand of tough cricket,” Hussey concluded.
