BCCI retain Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar for Champions Trophy

The Indian Express quoted BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary as saying, "It is decided that the support staff will remain the same at the Champions Trophy with the only change being Kapil Malhotra taking over as manager. Bangar and Sridhar have been asked to extend their services for the duration of the tournament and then it will be decided what needs to be done."

Bangar was first appointed as the batting coach of the team in August 2014. After his contract lapsed after the end of the World T20 in April, he was again reappointed on an interim basis for the limited-overs series against Zimbabwe before taking over the full-time role in June last year.

Sridhar, too, had started his stint at the same time alongside Bangar and Ravi Shastri in 2014. But, Sridhar's contract wasn't renewed for a while after the World Twenty20 in India and he was brought back to the team set up just before the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home.

Reportedly, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) have advocated for having 12-month contracts for all the support staff which will indirectly mean that they can't be associated with any Indian Premier League franchises. The initial idea to end the contracts in March was to allow the support staff to be a part of the IPL franchises this year.

While Bangar isn't a part of any IPL franchise currently, Sridhar is associated with Kings XI Punjab.
